stole this problem from BohemianLikeYou's niece's homework or something, I dunno it was a while ago

each letter represents a distinct digit

does anyone know how many possible solutions there are because I got one but it seems like there are more and it bothers me

but I'm too lazy to figure it out myself

and of course this one thought is the only one I can dwell on atm as I am studying for a bio test (I could be stuck thinking about worse, I guess)

how many solutions!!! I want to know, sob

math math math

it can't be completely hopeless to ask on DA though, can it....... all you math h8rs

I kid. Since U and N have to be distinctive digits, that means "U" cannot be 1, 9, 0, or 8. Which leaves 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7. But it also can't be 2 since 9+2 = 11, which means N would be 1, which is already S.

Therefore there are 5 different answers. =Db

Well, the only things that need to stay the same are the "O"s and the "S"s. The highest number you can get as a double digit from E+U is "1", so E+1+O has to get a double digit wherein the second digit is also O, which means E+1 has to equal "10", and since the highest number E+U can equal is 18, it means E = 10-1 = 9. That means O = 0. That means S = 1 (since SOON cannot > 2000).

So basically SEE = 199, while YOU = 80(?) which totals to 100(?). The digit for U is the one that can give you multiple answers. So long as U is a digit that when added to 9 gives you a number in the 10s (so that the one will carry over), the formula will work.

Meaning there are 9 solutions to the problem.

/tldr. That was a fun distracting puzzle though |D

your thought is so systematic
when I was figuring it out, I just flailed around and halfway thought those through...and guess/check for the U and N "orz
